I'm putting myself up to date on new technologies, social networking, web.2.0, 3.0, electronic book etc. but from a dispassionate point of view, with a certain distance, we could say, from second row.
It certainly seems the conquest of the west, some see fertile and promising land everywhere and some, a future full of opportunities, they never stop moving in a reckless drive to reach the ultimate edge. I think that some of them, given how they run, will reach the other side and will have no taken advantage of any fertile territory.
Although some do not believe there is a world out there, there is a reality outside the Net. I do not have internet at home, not that I'm against, I spend 11 hours a day sitting by a computer, and i do not miss it at home, not enough to pay 32 euros a month to connect.
I travel in the second row in a dispassionate way because I've detected some apocalyptic fury at the forefront, I've found many experts that portend the end of the email, Facebook, twitter, wifi, paper books; everything that people use . In a way they follow the patterns of fashion: there is a need of changing, although a garment is useful, they keep saying that it does not longer serves us, taht it discredits us, we're not on the wave, that we're running out of play and we must keep in constant contact with the elite and "gurus" for success or as some of them say, to survive.
I have never followed fashion, by conviction and by economy, I think the best age was the 40s and 50s, beautiful and practical the suits, vests and hats, and despite fashion is cyclical, this trend has not yet return.
When I like something and it is useful, I keep it regardless it is trendy or not. I use messenger daily at work, although this is a sacrilege to those who lead the wild race of renewal, but the messenger allows me to talk person to person, share links and work together without working out the throat and without disturbing other colleagues. Almost all serious and formal information , with business value, is send through e-mail, far away of dying I think is the most stable and enduring media. (How do I replace the information found in an email and the attached information for twitter or Facebook? And I go further, please, susceptible technologists stop reading, we send greeting cards by Postal mail as a marketing action! And they are effective!! Breathe, breathe man, nothing happens.
The advantage of going in the second row is that when I get to a network or technology and there is a certain community, I can use it, it is contrasted and I can take advantage. If you're the vanguard, you reach places where there is no one to see and you are levainfg the territory before building a community searching for a new land, so you spend your life alone and unable to exploit what you know, that really are the first but it is worthless because you can not expect to share it.
I thank these explorers and adventurers because they discover new territories for us, but I leave in quarantine their apocalyptic vision: a stepped territory is no longer useful. Definitely I was not born under a wandering star, I prefer a well iluminated landscape, see what there is on it and use it.
The media helps but the important thing is content. I know someone who recorded his LP on tape, over time digitized the tape on a CD, then passed it to MP3, MP3 passed it to a pendrive and pendrive to a card that can get in the car RadioCD. Now he has the record on LP on tape, CD, MP3, in the pendrive, in card, car and cell phone with bluetooth ...he has not yet heard the entire record.
